1. Google Accounts in District 96 (Liz)
How Google Docs Work

Google Drive

  • Google Drive, formerly Google Docs, is a wonderful tool for creating many kinds of documents, saving documents, and sharing with others.
  • District 96 has its own Google App domain. Click here to access it.
  • The D96 Technology wiki has more information about Google Drive/Apps.
  • *Download Google App to your iPad!
  • Google Hall and Oates
  • Logging into your Google Account -
    • Log in, change password

  • No gmail associated with our Google accounts now. We have Google Docs.
  • Join a shared document: What types of information do you share within your department, between schools, with administrators? What kind of information do you collect from students?
  • Comments, Auto Save, Sharing, Naming and Organizing Google Docs, Drag and Drop into Google Drive, Revision History - All document contributions are marked by a user name
  • All students and all teachers have Google accounts. We can reset passwords.

2. Collecting and Managing Data using Google Forms (Paula)

  • Google forms - Click here to complete the Google Form - How Well Do you Know the Encore Teachers?
  • Brainstorm ideas for data collection for teacher use.
  • Review the document with the table in it for ideas for creating your own Google Form.
  • Teachers can create a Google form.

3. Google Spreadsheets (Liz)

  • Sort, total, and average data in a form. (Exercise Minutes)
  • Sample - Step Test and Heart Rates

Step Test and Heart Rates Lesson - Share a Google Docs spreadsheet to all your students, with simple formulas to work out and graph averages. Have each member of your class have a copy of the spreadsheet loaded on their computer screen. Complete a step test, and record heart rates pre, post and every minute after, for 5 minutes. Results are collated instantly from all computers within the room and displayed in one graph. This gives students a way to visualise their changes in heart rate activity in comparison with their peers. 4. Using Video in the Classroom (Paula)

Flipped Coach blog - ideas for using video in the p.e. class
Jason Hahnstadt has a playlist of videos on YouTube including his own Pickleball video

Resources for using Video:
  • Ted ED (Lessons Worth Sharing); High-quality, school-appropriate videos, organized by subject area; lessons included; example includes How Breathing Works; TedEd videos come complete with lessons and "quizzes;" you can customize and send to your students like this example I created on the Real Origins of the Franchise.
  • YouTube Teachers- videos by and for teachers; check out the Playlists (like Science and Technology in Society or Personal Health)
  • YouTube EDU (Browse by category)
  • EduVision Flipped Learning Network - Teacher-created videos; Lots of science videos now; some others
  • PBS.org Teachers - search by grade level and subject; resources include videos
  • TeacherTube
  • iTunes - podcasts, iTunes U - students can download podcasts to their laptops
  • Sophia website - Teacher-created videos you can use; or upload your own
  • iTunes Store - podcasts, iTunes U
  • Explania.com - animated video collection, including How the Digestive System Works (37 sec)
  • WatchKnowLearn - Videos organized by subject - check out the Physical and Health Education category. The site is collaborative and allows you to build your own classroom for your content.
  • Khan Academy at iTunes U: Science and Economics videos can be found here; also Health-related videos, including 30 videos on the Heart
    • Because the Khan Academy website links to YouTube, students cannot watch these videos in school - only at home.
    • Khan Academy videos are also podcasts in iTunesU. Can be downloaded onto student laptops or mobile devices.
